Description
A genuine piece of Sheffield craftsmanship — handmade in Sterling Silver by skilled craftsmen and silversmiths using techniques that are becoming increasingly rare.
There was a time when Sheffield was filled with highly skilled metalworkers, silversmiths, polishers and specialist craftsmen. Today, only a small number remain capable of producing work of this standard.
This 2oz Sterling Silver Hip Flask is one of those increasingly rare pieces.
Made in Sheffield by Master Craftsmen, each flask is individually worked and finished by hand. This is not mass-produced silverware and it is not something that can simply be replicated by a modern production line. The slight individual characteristics created during its manufacture are part of what makes every flask special.
At the top sits a beautifully engineered traditional bayonet fitting — a feature which requires considerable skill to manufacture correctly and is becoming a rarity in its own right.
The entire flask is then mirror polished by hand, bringing the Sterling Silver to a deep, flawless lustre and showcasing the quality of the workmanship beneath.
Hallmarked in Sheffield
The flask carries a full British hallmark, including:
- The Yorkshire Rose – Sheffield Assay Office
- Lion Passant – confirming Sterling Silver
- Date Letter Z – for 2024
- HC Maker’s Mark
Together, these marks permanently record the flask’s authenticity, origin and year of manufacture.
A Piece to Keep for Generations
Objects such as this are becoming harder to produce because the specialist trades behind them are disappearing.
The craftsmen capable of making pieces like these have spent decades developing skills that cannot be learned overnight, and there are increasingly few people entering the traditional Sheffield trades to replace them.
For that reason, we simply cannot say how long genuinely Sheffield-made pieces of this nature will continue to be available.
It makes this flask much more than somewhere to carry a favourite whisky or spirit.
It is a functional piece of British silverware, a future heirloom and a small piece of Sheffield’s industrial heritage.
Whether purchased as a landmark birthday gift, wedding present, retirement gift, anniversary present or simply for somebody who appreciates exceptional British craftsmanship, this is an object designed to be treasured for a lifetime — and passed on to the next generation.
