Description
An elegant vintage French Art Deco carving set comprising a carving knife and matching fork, presented in its original fitted case.
The inside of the case is marked:
“Orfèvrerie Moderne – 89 Rue de Rivoli – Paris”
This identifies the prestigious Parisian silverware house that produced and retailed the set. Located on the famous Rue de Rivoli, one of Paris’s most elegant shopping streets near the Louvre, Orfèvrerie Moderne was known for high-quality silver-plated tableware during the Art Deco period.
The carving knife is marked on the blade with an “M” in a circular cartouche with “PARIS” underneath, while the bolster also carries a small maker’s stamp. The set features quality silver-plated handles with ornate floral, leaf, and scroll motifs characteristic of 1930s French design.
The handles are silver-plated, giving the set an attractive, classic appearance suitable for both display and use.
Based on the style, materials, markings, and the company’s activity, the set is believed to date from approximately the 1930s.
A wonderful piece of French tableware, ideal for collectors of vintage cutlery, Art Deco silverware, or 1930s dining accessories, and equally suitable as a practical carving set with period charm.
