On offer today is a fantastic Genuine Goldsmiths Alliance Ltd 2 Piece Carving Set. The set features Sheffield Steel Head Pieces with Sterling Silver Handles. Virtually brand new, handmade in Sheffield, England. The set appears to have had hardly any use. Immaculate condition, truly a fantastic set.
A very interesting maker – In 1893 the firm went voluntarily out of business and the activity was incorporated by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd. Besides silverware produced in its own workshop, Goldsmiths’ Alliance traded pieces made by other manufacturer silversmiths. Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd had agents in Bombay, Madras, Calcutta, Ceylon, Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart and Melbourne – This would help explain the Asian Crest that is hand engraved onto the handles. We have never come across this crest before.
Very Heavy Gauge Silver. The set is hallmarked with the Lion Passant, Leopard’s Head & the date letter Q for 1891. Makers Mark – JSH; the Makers Mark for the highly sought after Goldsmiths Alliance Ltd.
Includes a Presentation Case in immaculate condition.
Carving Knife measures 35 cm in length and weighs 150 grammes. Carving Fork measures 26 cm long and weighs 112 grammes.
Pristine condition that will only appreciate in time.
