Welcome to The Sheffield Cutlery Shop!
Saynor is a name held in particularly high regard among traditional pocket-knife users, best known for producing some of the finest flat-bottomed penknives ever made in Sheffield. These knives were built first and foremost as working tools—strong, dependable, and uncompromising in performance—and it is precisely for this reason that Saynor flat bottoms have earned an almost legendary following.
This example is a classic flat-bottomed Saynor penknife, a pattern prized for its stability in the pocket and comfort in the hand. The carbon steel blade is beautifully ground, capable of taking an exceptionally fine edge and maintaining it through real use. The action is strong and authoritative, with the kind of snap that experienced users immediately recognise and respect – the best we have to offer.
The knife is finished with genuine sambar stag antler scales, selected for their strength, grip, and natural character. Sambar stag has long been favoured on hard-working Sheffield knives, offering durability alongside a traditional, unmistakably honest appearance. Each set of scales is unique, adding individuality to a knife already rich in heritage.
Among those who truly understand traditional Sheffield penknives, Saynor flat bottoms are often considered the benchmark. Strong springs, sharp blades, and dependable construction. This knife represents the very qualities that have made Saynor knives so sought after for generations.
Quite simply, this is a working man’s knife, crafted the Sheffield way—and for many, it is the very definition of a dream penknife.
The blade is etched with the famous “SAYNOR” mark centred on the blade, and SAYNOR SHEFFIELD ENGLAND. The Blade measures 7.5cms, closed it measures 10.2cm. Open, it measures 17.7cms. The snap on the blade is phenomenal – the best we have to offer in the Flat Bottomed range, truly an excellent rare example.
The scales are crafted from genuine sambar stag antler, beautifully figured and naturally contoured, giving the knife both visual character and a secure, comfortable grip in the hand. Nickel silver fittings complement the natural material, creating a balanced and traditional appearance that feels entirely appropriate for this historic pattern.
