Welcome to The Sheffield Cutlery Shop!
We have an absolutely outstanding example of a Flat Bottomed Nickel Capped Pruning Knife manufactured by one of the finest – Taylors Eye Witness. TEW is one of the most respected and enduring names in Sheffield Cutlery, with a history that stretches back to 1820. Founded by John Taylor, the firm quickly established itself as a premier manufacturer of knives and edge tools, earning a reputation for reliability, cutting performance, and honest workmanship. The now-iconic Eye Witness mark became synonymous with trust and quality; a guarantee that a blade had been properly forged, heat treated, and finished to Sheffield’s exacting standards.
Unlike many historic names that disappeared or outsourced production, Taylor’s Eye Witness has remained rooted in Sheffield. For generations they supplied professional users—gardeners, farmers, tradesmen, and craftsmen—who demanded tools that worked hard, held an edge, and could be relied upon day in, day out. This practical heritage is what sets their knives apart: they were never made as novelties, but as serious working tools built with care and longevity in mind. This is shown superbly in this Pruning Pen Knife.
This example is a classic flat cap pruner, a pattern long favoured for a variety of uses. It features a carbon steel blade, renowned for its ability to take a razor-sharp edge and maintain excellent cutting performance. The blade is etched with the famous Eye Witness logo, a mark that for over two centuries has signified Sheffield quality and craftsmanship. The Blade measures 7.5cms, closed it measures 9.5cms, open it. measure 16cms. The snap on the blade is phenomenal – one of the best we have to offer, truly an excellent rare example.
The scales are crafted from genuine sambar stag antler, beautifully figured and naturally contoured, giving the knife both visual character and a secure, comfortable grip in the hand. Nickel silver fittings complement the natural material, creating a balanced and traditional appearance that feels entirely appropriate for this historic pattern.
THIS IS A RARE KNIFE THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME, A GREAT COLLECTORS PIECE WHICH WILL ONLY INCREASE IN VALUE
