On offer today is a beautiful set of Twelve Pairs of Knives and Forks with Sterling Silver Handles & Blades/Tines. The set is in pristine condition. As the photos reflect the knives and Forks are a perfect example of what Sheffield & London Silversmiths could manufacture. The Forks are assayed in London whilst the Knives are assayed in Sheffield.
Each fork is fully hallmarked for 1888 with The Lion, Leopards Head, Monarchs Head & date stamp (n) depicting 1888. Manufactured by Edward Hutton (William Hutton & Sons Ltd, a Sheffield based manufacturer whose premises used to reside on West St). Each Knife is fully hallmarked for 1882 with The Lion, Crown, Monarchs Head & date stamp (p) depicting 1888. Manufactured by Martin Hall & Co (a fantastic Sheffield based manufacturer who was located in Shewsbury Works, Sheffield). The handles (also hallmarked) are in great condition as the images show and look fantastic no splits.
The Knives measure 22CMS and weigh 55 Grammes.
The Forks measure 19CMS and weigh 56 Grammes.
This set would grace anyones home. A functional lot in this highly attractive pattern, a great set as a gift and would doubtless cost an awful lot in a retail outlet today.
